THE JOURNEY BEGINS

Foundation (1951): The establishment of the BJP took place in 1951 at a gathering in Mumbai. Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay, Balraj Madhav, and Atal Bihari Vajpayee were the key figures.

Formation of the Jan Sangh (1952): In 1952, the BJP was renamed as the Bharatiya Jan Sangh. Under this organization, Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee was eventually appointed as the National President.

Integration of Jan Sangh and BJP (1959): In 1959, the Jan Sangh and the BJP came together. Under the leadership of Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee and with the assistance of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay, they merged the two parties.

Jan Sangh-BJP Merger (1963): In 1963, the Jan Sangh and the BJP came together once again. As part of the merger process of these two parties, they re-established the BJP as an independent party with this name.

Leadership of Atal Bihari Vajpayee (1980): In 1980, Atal Bihari Vajpayee was elected as the National President of the BJP.
